The shape confuses new players because Episode 3 exists twice. Decay and Burial are not part one and part two of the same episode — they are two different Episode 3s, and which one you get is decided by your choices in Episode 2. Everything on this page follows from that one design decision.
Episode 1 — Home Sweet Home
One hour, and it has you. Andrew and Ashley Graves have been locked in their apartment for three months under a quarantine, food deliveries have stopped, and their parents left and never came back. Starving, the siblings get pulled into their neighbor's botched satanic ritual, summon a demon, receive a trinket that shows the future — and cross a line they cannot uncross.
As an opening, Episode 1 is a masterclass in compression: the lockdown, the starvation, the ritual, the demon and the first irreversible decision all land inside a single sitting. Most players start Episode 2 immediately, in the same session, which is the game's whole reputation in miniature. It launched free on itch.io on March 25, 2023 and built the entire fandom before Steam ever entered the picture.

Episode 2 — A Long Way Down
The siblings escape the apartment and run into something worse: the outside world. Episode 2 is longer, wider and darker — a road out of the city, a reckoning with the parents who abandoned them, and a past, involving Ashley's childhood friend Nina, that turns out to be darker than the lockdown ever was.
Mechanically, this is the episode that matters most. All through it, the game quietly tracks how Andrew and Ashley treat each other — trust given, trust refused, loyalty answered or betrayed. In the finale, that hidden record is judged in a single dangerous moment, and it locks your route: Burial if the trust held, Decay if it cracked. There is no route select screen and no warning. Our strongest advice in this entire guide: keep a manual save before the Episode 2 finale, so both Episode 3s stay reachable from one playthrough.
Episode 3 — Decay
Released April 1, 2025, Decay Part 1 is the longest episode yet at about six hours — and it is the distrust route, where every resentment banked across Episodes 1 and 2 gets collected with interest. Blame replaces loyalty. The siblings weaponize their shared past against each other, the demon's bargains come back at higher prices, and Julia — Andrew's girlfriend, a voice on the phone until now — enters the story in person, in some of the most debated material in the game.
Per the developer, Decay Part 1 contains one main ending, which is a deliberate cliffhanger, plus four dead ends hidden along the way: outcomes like the siblings gunned down by police or jumping to their deaths together, which end the story early instead of carrying your save forward. It stops mid-fall on purpose. Episode 4 holds the landing.

Episode 3 — Burial
Burial is the other Episode 3: the united-siblings branch, where Andrew and Ashley close ranks instead of cracking — shared guilt, total loyalty, and a bond deepening past anything healthy, which sounds like the good route until you remember what story this is. The developer has said the script is fully written. The branch itself is not released and has no confirmed date.
Until it ships, Burial saves simply stop at the end of Episode 2, and that is correct behaviour, not a bug. It will arrive as a free Steam update for every owner. Any site offering a 'Burial download' or a release countdown today is inventing both — the Burial release page in our blog tracks what is actually confirmed.
Episode 4 — What Comes Next
Two releases remain. Episode 4 continues Decay directly from its cliffhanger — it is the continuation of the branch you can already play. Burial, whenever it lands, is a separate Episode 3 that shares no content with Decay. Kit9 Studio posts progress reports on Steam, and until a date appears there, every leaked roadmap, screenshot thread and 'insider' schedule is fan speculation.
If you are starting today, the smart play order writes itself: play Episodes 1 and 2, keep that finale save, play Decay now because it exists, and let Burial meet you when it releases. You lose nothing and wait for nothing. The episodes guide turns this page's facts into a full play-order and save strategy.
How Long Is Each Episode?
- Episode 1: about 1 hour — one sitting, by design.
- Episode 2: several hours, longer with exploration and both finale approaches.
- Episode 3 Decay Part 1: about 6 hours, the longest episode yet.
- Full available story: roughly 10+ hours, before replays for dead ends and the other route.
These are story-first estimates: players who examine everything — and in this game examining everything is how the story tells on itself — will run longer. Our blog breaks the numbers down in how long is the game.
