The Honest Count
| Category | Count today |
|---|---|
| Episode 2 route outcomes (Burial / Decay) | 2 |
| Episode 3: Decay main ending | 1 |
| Episode 3: Decay dead ends | 4 |
| Episode 3: Burial endings | 0 - unreleased |
| Episode 4 endings | 0 - unreleased |
| Total reachable story endings | 3 (1 main + route outcomes) + 4 dead ends |
That is the whole truth in one table. The game does not currently have a double-digit ending count, and the reason is not hidden content - it is that half of Episode 3 and all of Episode 4 have not been released. Every future release moves this count, which is why any page giving you a single permanent number without a date on it is selling you something.
Why Other Sites Count Higher
Three tricks inflate the numbers. First, counting Burial endings as if Burial existed - some pages even describe them, in detail, from nothing. Second, the 'love route': an invented branch, repeated so often it feels canonical, which the game does not contain - the routes are Burial and Decay, decided by trust. Third, counting every scene variation and dead-end flavour as a separate 'ending', which can stretch any branching game to any number you like.
The pattern is always the same because the incentive is the same: a bigger number ranks for a bigger search. The correction is boring and total - if you cannot reach it in the Steam build today, it is not an ending the game has. Our endings page applies that rule to every claim, including the ones we would enjoy being true.
Dead Ends Are Not Endings (But They Count as Content)
The four dead ends in Decay - the police shooting, Andrew's total surrender, the jump, and the hidden fourth - close the story early and do not carry your save forward. Purists exclude them from 'ending' counts; completionists hunt them like achievements. Both instincts are fine, as long as the categories stay labelled, which is why this site always lists them separately rather than folding them into a headline number.
They also matter more than their length suggests. Each dead end is a complete, deliberate statement about these characters - a way the story honestly could stop - and together they map the walls of the corridor the main ending walks down. Skipping them means missing some of the sharpest writing in Episode 3.
How the Count Will Change
Burial, when it releases, adds its own ending set in one stroke - likely a main ending plus its own dead ends, if Decay's structure is the template, though the developer has confirmed no numbers. Episode 4 then closes the Decay line and, presumably, the story. A reasonable projection puts the finished game's real total somewhere in the low double digits across both branches - which is, ironically, the number today's inflated pages claim for a game that is only two-thirds released.
When those releases land, this post and the endings pages get updated with counts taken from the actual builds, the same way Decay's four dead ends entered the record in April 2025: from the developer and from play, not from vibes. Until then: 2 route outcomes, 1 main ending, 4 dead ends, and a fandom patiently doing arithmetic at an unfinished story.
How to Experience Every Real Ending
Counting endings is only half the hobby; collecting them is the other half, and it is cheaper here than in most branching games because the routes fork late and share their foundation. One playthrough of Episodes 1 and 2 with a protected finale save, then Decay with rotating mid-episode saves before each bargain and confrontation, reaches every ending that exists today: both route outcomes by definition, the main ending by playing straight, and the four dead ends by deliberately stepping wrong at the moments the game goes quiet and lets you choose badly.
Budget an evening for the full set. The dead ends are short, the main ending is the six-hour episode itself, and the only genuinely missable piece is the fourth dead end, which hides behind refusing an outcome the game frames as obviously correct. Our endings guide carries the checklist version of this hunt, decision point by decision point - bring saves, not restarts, and the full count is yours before dinner gets cold.
A Note for Achievement Hunters
If your platform of choice has trained you to expect a trophy per ending, adjust the expectation now: this game rewards ending-hunting with the endings themselves and a handful of Steam achievements that do not map one-to-one onto them. Completionists here measure in scenes seen, dead ends collected and routes carried - a softer currency, but one the community tracks with surprising rigour, including checklists for the fourth dead end that read like heist plans. The count in this post is your scoreboard; the endings guide is your route map; and the total, when Burial finally moves it, will be updated in both places on the same day.
